LVLC's family literacy coordinators and childhood education teacher work with AmeriCorps*VISTA and community volunteers to provide outreach services at the Dr. B.L. Perry Branch Library and Saint Paul's United Methodist Church. The mission is to provide families with the tools to build a strong educational base, coupled with resources for their empowerment.
Literacy Volunteers of Leon County and its group of partners provide the following adult education and enrichment classes:
Parents are encouraged to participate in weekly, small group workshops. Workshop topics are selected by parents and provide participants information and resources to promote their children's academic development as well as balance the worlds of work and family.
School-age children receive "one to one" and small group instruction as well as homework assistance.
Time spent together as a family, learning and sharing is the objective of Parent Child Together Time. Regular activities are scheduled to allow parents the opportunity to participate in the learning experiences of their children. Often a shared meal is part of the fun.
