ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGUES

Trained volunteers provide one-to-one and small group tutoring for speakers of other languages who would like to improve their conversational English, reading or writing skills. Staff members interview and assess learners prior to their entering the program. After the learner enters the program, a staff member and tutor create an individualized curriculum based on the learner's educational needs and goals. Learners are encouraged to come to the Resource Center between tutoring sessions where they have access to computers, audio and video tapes. Services are confidential and are provided at no cost to the leaner. Tutor training workshops are conducted three to four times per year.
