Trained volunteers provide one-to-one tutoring services for adults who want to learn to read and write or to improve their reading and writing skills. All services are confidential and are provided at no cost to the learner. Staff members interview and assess learners prior to their entering the program. After the learner enters the program, a staff member and tutor create an individualized curriculum and select study material based on the learner's assessment level, goals and educational needs. Learners are encouraged to visit the Resource Center between sessions where they have access to computers and the Internet. Tutor training workshops are conducted three to four times per year.
Imagine being an adult and not being able to read. If you have two hours a week to volunteer, you can help an adult to improve their literacy skills.
Please join us for our next Basic Reading Tutor Training Workshop!
